FEATURE INTERVIEWS I DID FOR THE WELCOME PROJECT

INTERVIEWING | VIDEOGRAPHY | VIDEO EDITING

I had the great pleasure while I was in college at Valparaiso University to be part of the Welcome Project spearheaded by whom I always called the “dynamic-duo”, Co-Directors Elizabeth “Liz” Wuerffel and Allison Schuette. I thank them to the highest for allowing me to grow, refine, and develop my interviewing, videography, & video editing skills. The first two section examples (first four videos) below I had the pleasure of interviewing, shooting, and video editing into the completed interviews they are now. The final three videos I did not shoot but did all of the video editing to them into the completed interview clips they are now. Doing these videos and working with the Welcome Project only enhanced my love of interviewing people and telling stories!

“I grew up in America & I wear jeans, & I want to make sure that’s something that works, that’s still modest.”

I WAS AFRAID I WAS GONNA CHICKEN OUT

“It was a decision that I made on my own and that’s what makes it all the more valuable to me.”

BECAUSE I CHANGED MY STYLE

FEATURE INTERVIEWS I DID FOR VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY

INTERVIEWING | VIDEOGRAPHY | PHOTOGRAPHY | VIDEO EDITING

I have improved a lot since these videos were created, but you can’t reflect on how much you’ve grown until you’ve seen where you came from. These videos were done when as I was first getting into this “industry”. Nevertheless I reflect back on them because of the fact, these videos were simply done because I LOVED interviewing people and putting together videos that told a story. I am so thankful for the opportunity and the platform to take part in to allow me to grow my skills and the people featured in these videos at Valparaiso University, I must say it was definitely a humbling experience and a pleasure to tell their stories. Granted these next two videos are honestly two of my all time favorites, hopefully if you view them you’ll see why too!

VIDEO PROJECTS I DID FOR SMDG

INTERVIEWING | VIDEOGRAPHY | VIDEO EDITING

As part of my growth and development phase, much of that is contributed to whom I consider one of my very first mentors Milton Thaxton Jr & Brandon Griffin, CEO and COO of Social Media Development Group (SMDG).  They allowed me to dive “head first” in composing media and interviewing people even though  I was just learning the “technicals” back then (still am today) because they had saw the creativity and zeal down in me I had and cultivated it. Amazing how a few years can make such a difference but again you don’t grow if you don’t develop. I hope to be able to work with them again one day and collaborate on things, show them all the new skills I’ve been able to learn (lol). These are video pieces of showcasing my  growth & development that I am extremely proud of and had the great pleasure of making to once again: tell the story.

OTHER VIDEO INTERVIEWS

INTERVIEWING | VIDEOGRAPHY | VIDEO EDITING

Below are some other video interviews I had the pleasure of doing. Again, amazing what a few years can do. But I have never forgotten my roots or how far I’ve come from. I look back at these and think man if only I had the skills I have now back then, they would be even better, but the essence of their stories is definitely worth listening too. I’m sure you’re tired of hearing this by now and if it couldn’t be anymore obvious but I simply love telling stories! I mean I honestly would go around and email people or walk into a store and ask, “Hey, would you mind if I interview you and tell your story?” (which is actually the case in one of the videos you’ll see below). I was thinking of just rewriting the infamous Call Me Maybe song lyrics to be: “Hey I just met you, and this is crazy, but I have a camera, mind if I interview you maybe?” (Honestly not sure how if you’ve read this far down how you’ve been able to put up with my quirkiness lol but I digress…). Sure some of these interviews I did back then I was a total goofball or blinked way too much (still a work in progress but again I digress…) or was a little choppy in my interview delivery. But the story got told, I had fun both in interviewing and creating the video pieces, and ultimately at the end of the day I learned something and if people who watched these videos laughed, were moved, or were informed, and took away learning something even if it was only a little bit of what the overall story was about, to me that will always be a win! You can have the best visuals, compositions, and shots in the biz but if it has no substance, it’s just a flashy video without a purpose. (That sounded like a good quote I should trademark right? I thought so too!)
